Joe Finnemore owns and runs JRF Contracting. He established the business after finishing university and deciding that corporate office life was not for him. With a strong passion for the outdoors and countryside, the opportunity to build a career working outside had clear appeal.
Starting small and growing organically, JRF Contracting has developed a broad and varied client base spanning both commercial and private work. Continued growth has enabled significant investment in specialist machinery, helping the team carry out projects more efficiently and safely.
The fleet includes large and compact excavators, tractors and a range of specific forestry and fencing machinery. This breadth of equipment means JRF Contracting can select the right capacity for each site, from smaller, precise work to substantial projects with demanding timescales.
The company’s success has been built on relentless hard work, determination, a highly skilled workforce and careful attention to detail. That same approach continues to guide every project today.

Certificated operators, fully insured
Tree and forestry work carries real risk, so the tickets and the cover matter as much as the machinery.

- Operators hold City & Guilds and NPTC certificates for the chainsaw and machinery work carried out on site.
- Public liability
- £10 million of public liability insurance, in place on every job, commercial or private.

- Post driving on steep, soft or restricted ground a tractor cannot reach.
- 10.5-tonne timber winches
- Extraction from ground a machine cannot safely reach.
- 15-tonne timber trailers
- Moving cut timber to roadside or stacking areas in fewer passes.
- Large PTO chipper
- Processing arisings on site into biomass-grade chip rather than hauling waste away.
